The home movie has long been a staple of documenting the private and personal histories of people. As home movies increasingly enter archives, they are forced to take on a new, public role not originally intended by their creators. We examine this balance of private and public with preserved home movies by examining The Lori Marion Home Movie Collection. Complete with a multi-part family road trip and several recordings of family functions, this collection perfectly exemplifies the home movie genre of the 1950s and 1960s. To provide additional context, I recently interviewed Lori Marion about her family and the 35 home movies that comprise the collection. To view all of Lori Marion's home movies, click here.
