Hachi no ki or the potted trees

About this item

Description This is the tale of a Japanese lord who, seeking to know the true feeling of his people, travels incognito among his population. He is caught in a snow store and taken in by a poor couple. So poor was the couple that there was no firewood in the house. To warm their guest, they burned their only treasured possessions, three potted plants. For their generosity, the lord rewarded them with wealth and rand. Artist Mikamo illustrates this story with drawing of potted plum and pine trees.
