Presents a history of the literature for the string quartet. Shows paintings contemporary with the musical selections that are played. Features the Juilliard String Quartet. Music includes: Haydn, the "Lark" quartet (1st movement); Gibbons, Fantasia for Viols; and final movements from quartets by Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Bartok, and Piston.
