Description Discusses methods used by composers to create variety in their musical sentence structure, or extend originally "regular'' phrases to longer proportions. Illustrates the following methods of extension: (1) cadence extension; (2) repetition, exact or sequential, in the body of the phrase; and (3) augmentation, or lengthening of note-values.
