Description Examines the transformation of Japan, from a Middle-Age culture to a modern society in a period of 70 years. Illustrates with Japanese documentary film footage from World War II to provide a contrast with films shot in 1906. Discusses the tensions between the surface westernization of Japan and the continuing strength of the ancient roots and traditions.
