About this item

Description The theme of the program is “The Psychology of Intolerance” and Dr. Clinchy begins it with a discussion of what has been done in the past fifty years to curb intolerance. He points to the high cost of discrimination – in persons unable to get jobs, unable to live in decent housing, requiring separate facilities, and so on – and remarks that more unfortunate than this economic factor is the problems of damage to the spirit of man. Dr. Clinchy maintains that man’s constructive energy is being wasted on discrimination and prejudice, and that a program of education would do much to diminish the force of prejudice. Families must educate their children to appreciate diversity within their social structure. At the end of the program, Dr. Clinchy describes some bitter experiences he had with the Ku Klux Klan, and how he took the first steps toward founding the National Conference of Christians and Jews.
