About this item

Description In the final program of the series Dr. Clinchy explains what Americans can and should do to increase toleration and a spirit of brotherhood. He begins by comparing the missionary zeal of the Soviet Union with America’s almost lackadaisical approach to convincing other nations of our good faith and desire to live in accordance with a belief in the dignity of man. This belief in the dignity of man is the great asset of Western civilization, maintains Dr. Clinchy, and must be carried to universal application. This can be done by a submission of national sovereignty to a system of world law, by sponsoring economic growth, and by working for a free and open exchange of ideas and persons. If the USA is to be able to do this without appearing to dictate to the rest of the world, there are several groups which must work toward this goal. One is made up of the parents, who must encourage toleration in their children. The second consists of the religious organizations; the third, the youth agencies; and the fourth, the communications services. Only if these four groups cooperate in fighting discrimination can any progress be made. In the end, he summarizes, we must develop fresh approaches to inter-group problems, learn more about man’s character, and learn to accept, encourage, and profit from differences in cultures and societies. Following this program may do much to assure future generations of a peaceful and prosperous world.
