About this item

Description Dr. H. Burr Roney, professor of biology, University of Houston, presents in this discussion many of the superstitions and folk tales concerning the nature of inheritance and its effects, then disproves them with presently known scientific knowledge. Dr. Roney's explanations are centered around the relationship of cause and effect between environment and inheritance. The two types of characteristics--hereditary and congenital--with which a newborn enters the world, are explained and examples given. Other areas of discussion concern the effect of breeding in pedigreed and non-pedigreed animals, an explanation of the Rh factor, and possible consequences in the marriage of first cousins. Dr. Roney ends on the problem of world over-population and the effects of radiation on present and future generations in relation to development and inheritance.
