Description In this episode of Portrait, Eric Sevareid interviews singer Marion Anderson. During the interview Anderson explains how her mother's support was one of the reasons for her successful singing career. She also reflects on when she had to perform at an outdoor concert in front of the Lincoln Memorial because the Daughters of the American Revolution prohibited her from singing in Constitution Hall because she was black. Other parts of the interview include Anderson talking about her European and Asian tours, her start in opera singing, her religious beliefs, and her personal life. Throughout the episode clips are shown of Marion Anderson singing throughout her career.
