Animals of ships, floats and piles

About this item

Description Shows how marine animals use hulls of ships, the undersurface of floats, and the supporting piles of docks and wharves as places of habitation. Considers first those animals who live on these structures without damaging them: the feather duster tube worms, turnicates, hydroids, barnacles, and sea slugs. Also discusses the destructive animals including the teredo or "shipworm" and the Limnoria. Illustrates how they attack and destroy wood. Uses film sequences and specimens from the studio aquarium to point out the physical characteristics and habits of these animals. (KCTS) Kinescope.
