About this item

Description Discusses the "Radio Era" and how it revolutionized life. Indicates that from the 20s to the early 30s, radio was emerging as the "poor man's" entertainment: "Captain Midnight," "The Green Hornet," and the "soap opera" had already been launched when vaudeville and variety artists such as Eddie Cantor, Fred Allen, and Jack Benny began to exchange quips through the new medium. Depicts radio entering the realm of serious programming with concerts, drama, and on-the-spot news reporting in the 1930s. Recalls that in its heyday radio was a force in unifying the American people.
