Ernst Krause. Erasmus Darwin, 1879.

Ernst Krause. Erasmus Darwin. Translated from the German by W. S. Dallas, with a preliminary notice by Charles Darwin. London: John Murray, 1879.

When Darwin offered to translate his article, Krause expanded it, including a derogatory reference to Samuel Butler, whose theories had been, he claimed, entirely anticipated by Erasmus Darwin, a passage that angered Butler and caused Darwin much anxiety, although he kept out of the ensuing controversy. By May 1881, only 800 to 900 copies of the book had been sold.
