Darwin Letters at the Lilly
Throughout his career, Darwin depended on an extensive network of correspondents (fellow scientists, amateur naturalists, gardeners and nurserymen, diplomats, army officers, colonial officials, and so forth), who gave him advice, obtained references and relevant literature, performed fieldwork, or simply praised him. 14,500 letters by Darwin himself and by many of his correspondents have been made available through the Darwin Correspondence Project. The following letters, included in several of the Lilly's extensive manuscript collections, are either still unpublished or not included in current collections. In their very mundaneness, they are characteristic of Darwin's daily letter-writing.
