Description

"Prairie Star" quilt This pieced quilt's sunbursts are done in red, two shades of yellow, and double pinks, the latter fabric also being used for the diamonds-on-point borders. The diamonds are bordered and the sunbursts framed by strips of light blue. The quilt is all-cotton with a plain back, a very light padding of dirty cotton, and is quilted overall in a simple diamond pattern.

Notes

Note the frequent "off" stitches in the sunbursts. This suggests that the quilter was not "running a line" as modern quilters would and that she was often distracted (kids?; quilting bee?). At the same time, the mitred corners are an uncommon touch indicative of a skilled seamstress.
