Bearish Lamb-Hindustan Cemetery, Hindustan
Title
Bearish Lamb-Hindustan Cemetery, Hindustan
Subject
Sheep
Lambs
Bears
Description
Although the name is not visible on this stone, Find A Grave shows an identical tombstone with the same death year and age as Montgomery indicated in her ledger: Moss E. Houston born 1884, died 1897. It is unclear if Montgomery described the tombstone design as "bearish" to distinguish it from other lamb tombstones, or if she was suggesting the design may have been a bear. Houston was 13 when he died, so a lamb would have been an appropriate design to symbolize his status as an adolescent.
