Elizabeth Breckenridge

Elizabeth Breckenridge, or “Lizzie,” as she was known by the Wylie family, worked from the age of 13 to 67, as a domestic servant for the Theophilus and Rebecca Wylie family. Her relationship with the Wylies, as paid domestic, was unusual for the time, as she developed an extended motherly role within the family. A physical example of her close relationship with the children, this photo is believed to have been taken by Laurence Wylie, Seabrook’s youngest child.
