Theophilus A. Wylie

Theophilus A. Wylie Theophilus A. Wylie (1810-1895) was the cousin of Andrew Wylie, (Indiana University’s first president), and a faculty member in several different fields including natural philosophy and chemistry (1837-1852, 1854-1863) and ancient languages (1863-1867).  Wylie was the chair of natural philosophy (1867-1886), and finally a professor and emeritus professor of physics (1884-1895). Wylie also served as the university librarian (1840-1852, 1854-1880), vice president (1882-1884) and as the interim president of Indiana University three times in 1859, 1860, and 1875. In addition to his academic duties Wylie was also a Presbyterian minister and served as pastor of the Reformed Presbyterian Church in Bloomington.
