Appliqued quilt; on each large block is appliqued a flower wheel with a red, pink and yellow flower in the center and bright green leaves and stems curving out from it ending with a smaller red, pink and yellow flower in each corner; border is zigzag pattern of stylized pink and red oak leaves with a green stem and red bud at alternating angles; edges is bound in red; back is plain white; unstuffed; hand-quilted in shell pattern; blocks may have been machine stitched;
Notes
"Whig Rose" or "Democrate Rose" pattern popular throughout 2nd half of the 19th century. The clamshell or fan quilting dates in the later 1800s.
