Biographical Text
Theodorus William John Wylie, who went by “Dory,” was born to Rebecca Dennis and Theophilus Wylie in Bloomington, Indiana, on 26 May 1858. He graduated from Indiana University in 1877 and subsequently worked for the U.S. Railway Mail Service. He married Frances “Fannie” Thompson (1857-1895) on 28 June 1882, and the couple briefly lived near the Mellette family in the Dakota Territory. They then moved to Fannie’s hometown of Newport, Kentucky, where Dory worked in a newspaper office. In 1888, Dory became a clerk in the U.S. Engineer Office in Frankfort, Kentucky. Fannie passed away on 18 February 1895. Dory survived her by nearly 40 years, dying on 27 October 1934. He is buried in Frankfort, Kentucky.
