Maggie Wylie Mellette’s Marriage Announcement

Possibly a marriage announcement or wedding invitation for Mellette couple, this artifact represents the transitions of marriage. After marriage, most women would depart and enter into new lives with their husbands, separated from the familiarity of their immediate family and childhood home. As a response to this, from the bride’s perspective, weddings could be seen as an important event to cherish, not only with their grooms, but also with their close relatives, especially their female relatives.
