Dear Lou,

This will explain all—the letters, I mean. I can not tell you how I feel. I feel as if all womanhood was gone. Even worse, as if I had never had any to lose. God help me now! I turn to you in all trouble. Shall I send the enclosed answer—I’ll copy it—or shall I leave it unanswered? Return her letter and burn mine if you think best. I must keep hers. She will ruin me if she can. Why do I trust people!!! I have cried so that I can’t see, and my head aches. Have I wronged Father and Mother! Have I made them suffer! Kiss my darlings and than Mary. I love to look at her picture. Don’t let my babies near unkind things of their Mother. Your sister, Sede

Pardon this, the tears blind me. Write soon.
