Mourning Dress
Title
Mourning Dress
Description
This black, silk dress may have been worn as a mourning dress. Widows’ clothing told more about a woman than just her marital status. Mourning garments also sent a message of socioeconomic status. For wealthy widows, an expensive and ornate dress was worn as a shield to express financial security and stability.
