Description
George W. May born 1809, died 1859. The iconography on this tombstone represents May's status as a Freemason, a fraternal organization that dates back to 14th century stonemason guilds. The Square and Compasses (center) is the most identifiable Freemason symbol. This tombstone also features two pillars, which can symbolize the Temple of Solomon for Freemasons.
