Description
Having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, George Brooks came to IU in 1962 after earning a Ph.D. at Boston University, becoming IU’s first historian of Africa. A specialist in commercial networks in West Africa, Brooks helped to recruit other Africanists to IU, and retired in 2006 after 44 years in the Department of History.
