Government need and scholarly concerns

On behalf of African Studies Program and Center heads from around the country, Gwendolen Carter authored the 1967  report  for the Department of Health, Education and Welfare, outlining the development of the African Studies’ second wave in the United States. Carter notes at the outset of the report the generative confluence of “government need” and “the interest and concern of scholars” in program development to date, as well as what these programs would need in order to continue to flourish.
