Salvage
Description
An account of the resource
Donald Nelson, head of the War Production Board, discusses the need for every American man, woman, and child to save and salvage metals, fats, and rubber. Nelson argues that the total way being waged against the Axis nations demands all Americans live "a new way of life: a war way of life." Household items that would have been thrown away before - old rubber, cooking fat, steel scrap - can be saved and turned into militiary weapons to defeat America's enemies. Official Salvage Depots are shown as the drop-off points for this recycled junk. The film ends with a montage where scrap metal is intercut with tanks, jeeps, and airplanes.
