Trip to Bethesda and Washington D.C. and Return - 1950

About this item

Description To start the film we watch play-by-play as a small plane takes off. The Hollands are gathered with friends at a small airport before a quick, but smooth takeoff, leading into some very cool footage while still low to the ground. A brief maintenance stop in Cincinnati is the only thing in their way before moving on to the end goal: the nation's capital. The camera goes on the essential Washington D.C. tour: peeking through the fence of the White House, panning shots of the Lincoln Memorial's massive columns, exterior of the National Mall, and the Washington Monument. We see the iconic Key Bridge, the Jefferson Memorial across the bay, and the Capitol Building from afar. To close out the trip, Phil focuses in on a small country airport. Cars and small planes parked, large radar equipment, engines starting up and a smooth take off. This particular film showcases Holland's dedication and love for small-plane aviation, as well as the benefits that accompanied the hobby: cheap cross-country travel to your leisure, at all times.
