Florida Trip - January 1948

About this item

Description This film opens up with classic Holland footage from the cockpit. They laugh and smoke cigars while cruising the vast Florida swampland. They stop in Leesburg to visit family before making some maintenance changes to the plane and hopping back in. They travel via the skies to Fort Lauderdale, via roads to different neighborhoods, and via water to see the coastline. This starts an awesome boat tour in which we see a drawbridge, beautiful homes close to the wetlands, and even some wildlife (including an American Crocodile!) Back to the airport runways, the men fire up the prop engine and take a test run in the skies. In the air, we get a bird's eye view of the very same inlets we just toured on the ground. They leave Lauderdale and fly to Miami Beach to see other friends. Miami is HUGE, and features much taller hotels than Lauderdale. They make a stop at the Florida Everglades and film some birds migrating south. This whole trip was possible thanks to Philip Holland's love for small-airplane aviation.
