We Won 1964 - IU vs Mich State

About this item

Description In typical Phil Holland fashion, the reel is multi-purposed to showcase more than one event. It starts off at the Bloomington Shrine Parade, a very exciting and diverse event held downtown. Boys ride through the streets on tricycles, horses are marched down in unison, and drummers in Scottish Kilts form an impressive marching band. Of course, Holland gives himself a nice viewpoint and films the entire thing. Sometimes it's a regular parade, with people playing music on the back of a truck bed. Other times it's a pretty ridiculous scene, with a man dressed as a clown riding on his bicycle. Either way, it's an interesting spectacle from mid-1960's Bloomington. Following the parade's conclusion, the scene switches to Memorial Stadium for the Hoosiers to take on Michigan State. While we do see a nice selection of plays from both halves, Holland likes to focus on other aspects of the game: the baton twirlers, the halftime show, and the coaches' pep talks. It's autumn of 1964 in Bloomington, IN.
