Frank's Graduation 1953
About this item
Description |
Indiana University Commencement Ceremony, 1953. We watch as thousands of graduates pour onto the field at Old Memorial Stadium. Flags wave, family members attend, and the sun shines down on all. Even more interesting: Herman B. Wells is stands on stage to deliver the class' commencement speech! Frank is filmed, walking proudly up to the camera and brandishing his crimson-colored diploma. From here, the family celebration commences: family and friends are gathered in the backyard to support Frank. Later, the scene switches to another party where everyone is wearing Hawaiian shirts and flower necklaces. They go to, and film, a few more parties after this: the first one a pool party, the second hosted by friend Mary Smallwood. Finally, the film closes off by showing the empty lot of a burnt-down church in Bloomington, as well as various other buildings and exteriors around town. The essence of a 1950's Bloomington resident is captured by the likes of this film. (Description written by IULMIA staff) |
