Here to There with the USS Wisconsin

About this item

Description The USS Wisconsin was first commissioned in 1943. Although the year of creation for this film is unknown, we can assume it was close to the mid-1940s. This particular film showcases Holland's skills behind the camera, as several interesting landscapes, horizons, and sunset shots are captured beautifully. We also watch as soldiers are transported between ships via an interestingly comprehensive pulley system. Holland captures the chemistry and cooperation of over 100 soldiers working together aboard an incredible battleship. Also visible is a camaraderie and universal liking amongst the men, as most are eager to pose, smile and laugh together. This film has the best of both worlds, as a picture of a historically significant theme is painted, while Holland's technique and style of filmmaking can also be appreciated throughout.
