Family

The Holland clan is a picture-perfect model for the mid-century nuclear family. Mother (Ellen), Father (Philip), son (Frank) and daughter (Nancy) would all pile into the station wagon and take a trip around the country. Or they would sit down together for a family dinner, or they would play and chase each other around the front yard. No matter what they were up to, Phil's 8mm camera was there too, capturing all the smiles and important moments.

Below is a group of films that basically spans Nancy's entire life. Starting out in 1936, baby-fat Nancy toddles and follows big brother Frank around the front yard, getting pulled in the red Flyer wagon and doing somersaults. Fast forward twenty years, and Nancy has a smile ear to ear at her and Donald's wedding. Another decade, and Nancy's got two kids of her own: big brother Peter and little sister Heather. Each child has a birthday party, with their own friends and their own presents, but the two siblings never leave each other's side. Heather adores Peter, and follows his every move. She laughs at his jokes and he leads by example. The sibling love comes full circle, reminiscent of Nancy and Frank nearly 40 years earlier.
