CBS Children Film Festival

The CBS Children's Film Festival was a series that aired foreign film that were dubbed for an American audience. The hosts for the show were Fran Allison and puppets Kukla & Ollie that were puppeted by Burr Tillstrom. The films feature children as the protagonists and often had a moral for the characters to learn. CBS programming director, Fred Silverman, vice president of daytime programming, was one of the driving forces behind the production of the Children’s Film Festival. One of the goals for the show was to introduce children to acclaimed cinema rather than Saturday morning cartoons. It also had the additional advantage of providing new variety to daytime programming which was one of Silverman's goals when he took over CBS daytime programming.
