Elizabeth Bishop & Louise Bradley Correspondence

Of the many archival resources associated with the Wylie House, one of the more notable and surprising collections is made up of letters between Louise Bradley, great-granddaughter of Theophilus A. Wylie, and Elizabeth Bishop, notable American poet, Pullitzer Prize winner, and one-time Poet Laureate.  The two shared a close friendship, as illustrated by nearly 25 years of correspondence between them, from 1925 to 1950.  These letters paint a unique picture of Bishop's development from precocious but unhappy adolescent to accomplished writer, and preserve a friendship that played an important role in both women's lives.
